Against A Crooked Sky

 Cutting Back
Back to Full Blog

Is anyone driving today? I was just wondering. I think my van is driving itself around because I go no where, and yet my tank stays nearly empty...
I have cut back on my insurance. Then I got a new phone service. Then I cut back to basic TV cable. I have to have connection for work on-line, so I have cable for that. I even quit my garbage service, and am recycling plastics, cans, cardboard, and more. But oh my garage is crying!!! Lady, what are you doing to me?
Now I am thinking where can I cut on the grocery bill? But I do like my coffee, and I do like my milk. I guess I like to eat too much. Ha!
Now even my poor little birds outside are on "hold" waiting for bird seed.
I know we are all feeling this burden tremendously.

I think it would be appropriate if our congress and our senate, and all the politicians would have to do what each and every one of us is doing, and then, just maybe then, they truly would understand what Americans are all about.

We give. We help. We conserve. We honor. We do what it takes to help our country. I know that we have endured hardships, and I know our ancestors endured a great deal more, but this is here and now, and it is what we know, and it is tough.

Hope all of you are getting good walking shoes, bicycles, and don't forget to take your water with you!!

We are in it together!!!

We too are cutting back as much as we can. I never had cable or high speed internet so those luxuries can be cut back... that leaves gas and groceries and the basic land line phone. Hmmmmmm.. More beans and peanut butter will become the staple I guess. I planted a larger garden this year. Growing our own is better for us anyway. I parked the truck (gas-guzzler)in the garage and haven't drove it for about three weeks now. Since I have an hour commute to work, a bike is not an option...

It is definitely a challenge at times but we will survive. If the pioneers before us made it in the harsh reality of the world, so can we.

Great post Summer,

SOmetimes cutting back is not an option.I drive rural route mail as a relief worker and I have to use my own gas and my own Lemon(truck) and Canada Post pays not alot.SO where do I cut back if I don't work then I get no extras. And right now them extras are my pills for everday living.I just do not see it stopping in the near furture unless of course we are enroute to a depression. Its not fare the people that are on welfare seem to have more then the working person does..
At least thats the way it is here in Canada.

Summerrayne; we have been rcycling for many years now; I am now trying to remember to do it with grcery bags (still forget sometimes) . Have my small garden and we have changed our diet. We are thinking about where we can be better stewards of God's gifts to us. And I do agree that the politicians should have to do some personal cutbacks too - maybe they would think a bit furthur than they do. June
